CLIMATE POLICY FOR
GLOBAL WARMING TO BE EXAMINED AT OCT. 20 UCSD ECONOMICS ROUNDTABLE
Although the theory of
global warming is still being debated among scientists, President
Clinton appears determined to implement the terms of the 1997 “Kyoto
Protocol,” the global warming treaty mandating strict emissions
reductions from the U.S. and other developed nations.
Dr. Raymond Kopp, a
senior fellow at Resources
for the Future will discuss “Climate Policy for Global Warming:
Credible Early Action,” at the University of California, San
Diego’s Economics Roundtable at 7:30 a.m., Oct. 20, at the UCSD
Faculty Club.
Kopp, who served as
principal investigator on the Exxon Valdez damage assessment effort
for the Attorney General of the State of Alaska, is an expert on the
valuation of natural resources, the financial impacts of environmental
policy, and technology and innovation in environmental protection.
He has written widely on the economic impacts of environmental
legislation as well as on climate policy.
The UCSD Economics
Roundtable, a joint program of the UCSD Department of Economics and
UCSD Extended Studies, provides San Diego business and civic leaders
with the opportunity to hear the views of nationally renowned experts
in economics, finance, business, and public policy.
Kopp’s talk is the first of four roundtable events planned
for the 1999-2000 academic year.
The cost for attending the roundtables is $50.
Members of the news media are invited to attend free of charge. To make reservations please contact Edie Munk, (858) 822-0510
