TAKE ON TOUGH SAN DIEGO URBAN, A University of California, San Diego Expo featuring an assortment of student projects examining San Diego urban and regional planning issues will be held March 12 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the UCSD Price Center Ballroom B. The exhibit, sponsored annually by the UCSD Urban Studies and Planning Program, will include presentations of 40 research projects completed by UCSD Urban Studies students. The projects will examine a variety of San Diego-based issues relating to urban and regional planning, housing and transportation, architecture, education, health, and social services. Topics include San Diego’s affordable housing crisis, obstacles to effective teenage pregnancy programs, the role of public-private partnerships in transit development, and trade associations and the expansion of the life sciences industries in San Diego. The exhibits will include posters, brochures, photography and other visuals. The exhibit will be followed by a reception at 4 p.m. and a program at 5 p.m., featuring an awards presentation and keynote speaker Carolyn Chase, a UCSD Urban Studies and Planning graduate and the chair of Mayor Dick Murphy’s Environmental Advisory Board.
