UCLA ECONOMIST, FORECAST DIRECTOR TO SPEAK ON THE OUTLOOK FOR CALIFORNIA’S ECONOMY OCT. 16 IN THE FACULTY CLUB AT UCSD

The UCLA Anderson Forecast was one of only a few institutions in 2001 to accurately predict the current recession. Where to next? How goes a recovery? Edward E. Leamer, director of the UCLA Anderson Forecast will discuss The Outlook for California’s Economy at the Oct. 16 breakfast meeting of the University of California, San Diego Economics Roundtable.

The meeting will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the UCSD Faculty Club.

The UCLA Anderson Forecast has provided forecasts for the economies of California and the United States for 50 years. Founded in 1952, the national forecast has been recognized as one of the most accurate.

In addition to being director of the UCLA Anderson Forecast, Leamer is a rofessor of economics and statistics and holds the Chancey J. Medberry Chair in the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management.

Prior to joining the Anderson Graduate School in 1990, Leamer was a professor of economics at UCLA from 1975, serving as chair from 1983 to 1987, and prior to that he was an assistant and associate professor at Harvard University. Leamer received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Princeton University, a master’s in mathematics and a doctorate in economics from the University of Michigan.

Leamer is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and of the Econometric Society, a research associate of the National Bureau of conomic Research, and a visiting scholar at the International Monetary Fund and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. He has published four books and more than 100 articles.

Leamer’s research has been supported by continuous grants for more than 25 years from the National Science Foundation, the Sloan Foundation and the Russell Sage Foundation.
