The third annual Breakfast with Champions is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the La Jolla Country Club. The event, which is open to the public, features a presentation by nine-time Pro Bowl safety and analyst for the NFL on FOX, John Lynch. All proceeds will benefit prostate cancer research at Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health.

Lynch earned a Super Bowl ring with the Buccaneers in Super Bowl XXXVII. He also spent time with the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots before retiring in 2008 after fifteen seasons in the NFL.

“I am excited to join Dr. Christopher J. Kane and everyone at Moores Cancer Center to participate in the Breakfast with Champions as they and the San Diego community help raise money for research to defeat prostate cancer,” said Lynch. “This event has special personal meaning to me as Dr. Kane successfully treated and performed surgery on my brother-in-law. I am proud to say that my brother-in-law has been healthy and cancer-free now for three years, thanks in large part to the efforts of Dr. Kane and the talented staff at Moores Cancer Center.”

Prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer-related death among men in the United States. At UC San Diego School of Medicine, physician-scientists are researching ways to improve treatment options, both in terms of increasing effectiveness and minimizing side effects. Current research includes investigations into which populations of men have the highest genetic risk of prostate cancer, whether diet can improve outcomes for patients and if immune system-modulating therapies can help cure prostate cancer.

“Breakfast with Champions brings together a community of people who support a vision for improved prostate cancer treatments and cures, restored health and preserved quality of life,” said Christopher Kane, MD, chair of the Department of Urology at UC San Diego School of Medicine. “The UC San Diego Health Department of Urology and Moores Cancer Center genitourinary oncology team are dedicated to providing the very best personalized care available so that no man with prostate cancer has to travel outside San Diego, and men from outside our region will increasingly travel to UC San Diego for our advanced care. We are dedicated to translating scientific discoveries to meaningful therapies and treatments as rapidly as possible and Breakfast with Champions supports this mission.”

Breakfast with Champions will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30 at the La Jolla Country Club. Tickets are $250 per person and sponsorship opportunities are available.
