I’m honored and excited to begin my tenure as UC San Diego’s eighth Chancellor. Yesterday, on my first day, I had the opportunity to meet with staff and faculty, interact with students who are here for summer camps, visit the Sapphire Energy company founded by UC San Diego faculty, and chat via Skype with alumni who are also beginning new chapters in their lives. Chancellor Khosla’s First Day in Photos

The 2012 Olympic Games in London will represent the third time Carrie Johnson has competed in kayak at the Olympics. Johnson, who received a degree in biochemistry from UC San Diego in 2009, will compete in the women’s 500 meter beginning Aug. 7 and the women’s 200 meter beginning Aug. 10. Johnson won the women’s K-1 500 meters at the U.S. kayak trials in Oklahoma City in April.

Former UC San Diego track star Christine Sonali Merrill will compete in the 400-meter hurdles beginning Aug. 5. Sri Lanka chose her as its wild-card entrant. While a senior at UC San Diego in 2010, she set school records in both the 400 hurdles and 400-meter dash. As a junior, she won the NCAA Division II title in the high hurdles after posting a first-place time of 58.59.

Chancellor Khosla to Welcome Staff at Annual Picnic

Staff attending the UC San Diego All Staff Picnic will get a chance to meet UC San Diego’s new chancellor, Pradeep Khosla. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 17 in Town Square. Chancellor Khosla will hand out ice cream to staff after making welcome remarks during the program. Come shake his hand and welcome him to campus. Online registration for a complimentary lunch will be available beginning at 8 a.m. Aug. 3. Read More »
