His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama

 

The exiled spiritual head and leader of the Tibetan people will address graduating students at commencement in June 2017. He will also speak at a second event on campus open to the public.

The University of California San Diego, in partnership with The Friends of the Dalai Lama Foundation, today announced that the exiled spiritual head and leader of the Tibetan people will offer the keynote address at the invitation-only UC San Diego All Campus Commencement June 17, 2017. UC President Janet Napolitano and all 10 UC Chancellors issued a statement on Jan. 29 expressing a commitment to support all members of the UC community. The statement was in response to a recent executive order that would restrict the ability of students, faculty, staff and other members of the UC community from certain countries from being able to enter or return to the United States. The UC community, like universities across the country, has long been deeply enriched by students, faculty, and scholars from around the world, including the affected countries, coming to study, teach and conduct research.
