How 3D Printing Could One Day Save Lives

 

In the past decade, UC San Diego engineers have 3D printed a variety of devices ranging from rocket engines, to robots, to structures inspired by the seahorse’s tail. Now, nanoengineers have added a new item to that list: a 3D printed blood vessel network. The new research, led by nanoengineering professor Shaochen Chen, addresses one of the biggest challenges in tissue engineering: creating lifelike tissues and organs with functioning vasculature and do so safely when implanted inside the body. A Seat at the Table

After undergoing an extensive remodel, the Ocean View dining hall hosted a grand re-opening last month to celebrate, among other things, the addition of an internationally themed joint halal and kosher kitchen, Spice. It is one of the first dining halls to feature both halal and kosher food in the UC System and is the first out of 10 campuses to remain open 24/7. Read More »
