The University of California, San Diego is home to the first and only Arthur C. Clarke Center for Human Imagination, honoring the vision of “2001: A Space Odyssey” author Arthur C. Clarke. Today, the campus is announcing a $1 million gift from San Diego-based satellite and digital communications innovator ViaSat Inc. that will continue Clarke’s greatest legacy: imagination. Founders’ Celebration 2013, held Nov. 14-16, featured numerous events in commemoration of UC San Diego’s 53rd anniversary. Town Square was transformed into a 1960s beach boardwalk festival complete with interactive games, free food and live entertainment. Campus Reaches Out this Holiday Season

On the second Thursday of each month, a group of UC San Diego volunteers meets in the evenings at the Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank to help sort through donations and assemble food packages for San Diego community members in need. Campus to Honor World AIDS Day Dec. 2

UC San Diego will honor World AIDS Day Monday, Dec. 2 to focus attention on and raise awareness about the impact that HIV/AIDS has had in the San Diego community, the nation and the world. World AIDS Day is celebrated each year on Dec. 1. The campus will sponsor a number of opportunities throughout the day, including the display of three sections of the AIDS Memorial Quilt in the Price Center Ballroom East from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and an HIV/AIDS Resource and Information Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Library Walk.
