Q&A with Larry Goldstein
This fall, while other School of Medicine faculty were immersed in research and classes, Larry Goldstein spent many of his waking hours working to educate California voters and a nationwide audience about what he thinks could be the biggest medical breakthrough in decades. He has been appearing on network TV news shows, speaking before large crowds, and arguing intently for passage of Proposition 71, the ballot initiative that would commit California to issue $3 billion for stem cell research. UCSD
Pascal Reunion
They came from as far as San Francisco, Oregon and Washington. Like
college-aged buddies, these 40-something men and women camped out on floors
in their friends' homes. And from the moment Richard Kaufmann booted up a
copy of the 24 X 80 monochrome "Welcome to UCSD Pascal" screen, this group
of some 50 UCSD alumni were transported back 30 years, when as
undergraduates they helped usher in the PC revolution.

Wittgenstein
By Avrum Stroll,
Professor of Philosophy
Avrum
Stroll introduces the legendary philosopher Ludwig
Wittgenstein. Including Wittgenstein's student
days at Cambridge, his dramatic changes of professions,
his eccentric lifestyle, privileged background
and writings two days before his death, this book
spans Wittgenstein's life and philosophical achievements.
The analysis of the philosopher's three great
ideas reveals the dramatic reversals of opinion
that characterized Wittgenstein's career and provides
insight into the way in which language shapes
our world. More
