Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day April 28
Offers Range of Creative, Physical, and Mental Activities

Activities
for children ranging from
acting and writing workshops,
to an introduction to
the Supercomputer Center,
to dealing with bullying,
to rock climbing and hat
making will be offered
at the annual Take Our
Daughters and Sons to
Work Day at UCSD April
28. All events, except
lunch and rock climbing,
are free.
A
registration/reservation
form must be submitted
by 3 p.m. Friday, April
15. The form may be downloaded
at http://women.ucsd.edu/daughters/daughters.html.
Registration
and a complimentary breakfast
will kick off the April
28 activities at 8:30
a.m. on the green next
to the Women’s Center,
Building 965, University
Center. Programs and activities
will be held from 9:30
a.m. to 3 p.m. at various
campus locations.
UCSD
staff, faculty, and students
are invited to bring their
children to participate.
Parents and children are
encouraged to think about
how the work they choose
fits into their overall
future. The target age
for participating children
is 8 to 12. Children must
be accompanied by a parent
or guardian at all times.
Following
breakfast, there will
be two morning sessions,
an evaluation period and
a luncheon sandwich buffet,
and an afternoon session.
Session I will be from
9:30 to 10:45 a.m. and
Session II from 11 a.m.
to 12:15 p.m. Both sessions
offer identical workshops
and daughters and sons
may select one activity
per session. These activities
include:

Location: Office of

Prevention and Policy.
Learn how to deal
with bullying, teasing
and harassment at

Response. Location:
Parking lot across
from Gilman Parking
Structure. Speak to
an Emergency Medical
Technician and see
the inside of an ambulance. |

Crafts Center. Location:
Original Student Center
by the Grove Café. |

EarthKam. Location:
Surf Building (behind
Police Station) first
floor, Room 157. |

La Jolla Playhouse
Workshop. Location:
Cross-Cultural Center.
Acting and writing
workshop. |

Psychological and
Counseling Services
Workshop: “What
I want to be when
I grow up?”
Location: Women’s
Center, Conference
Room. Visualization
and collage exercise
for kids. |

Police Station. Location:
The Police Station.
Tour the Police Station
command room and get
fingerprinted. |
Workshop
space is limited and slots
will be filled as registration
forms are received, first
come, first served.
An
evaluation period and
a build-your-own sandwich
buffet will be held at
12:30 p.m. This will include
assorted sandwich breads,
condiments, and choice
of roast beef, ham, turkey
breast, cheddar cheese
and Swiss cheese; choice
of potato salad, coleslaw,
calico bean salad and
bow-tie pasta salad; chips,
and brownies or cookies.
The sandwich lunch is
optional and the fee is
$5. Payment for the lunch
is required in advance
and should be mailed with
the registration form.
Checks should be made
payable to the UCSD Women’s
Center.
The
afternoon session will
be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
and will include RAD Hatter,
hat-making and Outback
Adventure Rock Climbing.
The fee for rock climbing
is $8 per participant.
Checks should be made
payable to UC Regents
and returned with the
registration form.
Children
should dress in play clothes
for the day. Though the
day is designed for ages
8 to 12, younger children
are also welcome.
The
Take Our Daughters and
Sons to Work Day is a
national program launched
by the Ms. Foundation
to address the competing
challenges of work and
family. The foundation
believes that for girls
to achieve their full
potential, in the home,
workplace or community,
boys also must be encouraged
to reach their potential
by participating fully
in family, work and community.
The
registration forms, and
luncheon and rock climbing
checks where appropriate,
should be sent, to arrive
by 3 p.m. April 15, to
the UCSD Women’s
