Faculty,
Staff, Students Resolve for a Better 2005
The
New Year is upon us and
many members of the UCSD
community rang in 2005
by celebrating with friends
and loved ones. The New
Year isn't just about
noise makers and party
hats at midnight, however,
but is also a time for
reflecting on the past
and setting goals for
the future. If you haven't
thought about yours yet,
here are some resolutions
from around campus to
inspire you.
|
|
"My resolution for 2005 is to volunteer more and to watch less reality TV."
— Jill Gibson, Rady School of Management
|
|
 |
"My
New Year's
resolution
is to eat
more salads
and fewer
coffee cakes."
— Kyle Lacy, Graduate Student Chemistry and Biochemistry |
|
|
|
“My
New Year's
resolution
is the same
every year:
to get kicked
out of all
the elite
levels of
the frequent
flier programs
of the airlines.
We scientists
travel far
too much,
and these
various elite
levels are
badges of
shame! So
far, I have
succeeded
in getting
demoted but
not yet expelled.
I like this
resolution
because its
success is
measurable,
unlike vowing
to be a better
human being,
father, husband,
scientist."
— Richard C. J. Somerville, Distinguished Professor,
Scripps Institution of Oceanography |
|
|
|
“My
2005 New Year's
resolution
is to begin
gathering
information
for law school
and doctoral
programs,
finding new
activities
for exercising,
and lastly
traveling
to spend more
time with
my family
and friends."
—
Clarissa Lonn,
MPA, Student
Organizations
Advisor-Greek
and Social
"I myself have always liked to live by a quote written by Les Brown. "Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land among the stars".

Director Student Organizations & Leadership Opportunities |
|
 |
|
“Honestly, I was so sick with the flu over New Year's, that my only resolution was to get better!”
— Mike Ferry,
Second Year Student Ph.D. Bioengineering Program |
|
|
|
“A fun resolution -- double my number of tattoos and body piercings A life-enhancing resolution -- attend a spiritual retreat.”
—Ed Fink, Division Administrator of Hospital Medicine |
|
 |
|
“Honestly, mine was to join the gym, go back to school, and pay off some debt. Boring, isn't it?”
— Keira Perkins, Stewardship Coordinator |
|
|
|
“I will accept that I am no longer just losing my hair and rather will embrace that I now have successfully achieved that as a goal!“
— Mark Cunningham, Housing and Dining Services |
|
 |
|
“New Year's Resolutions...I already broke it, it was to quit smoking...yadda yadda yadda....Ha, went a day then went like crazy.”
— Elaine Ferraro,
Structural Engineering Major |
|
|
|
“My New Year's resolution is to not have fear stop me from achieving my goals and dreams.”
— Lisa Wu, Computer Resource Specialist |
|
 |
|
“My resolution for the coming year is to utter every word,
mindful not of how it makes me sound but rather how it is heard by the
listener.....
”
—Dr. Joshua Lee,
Medical Director, Information Systems,
UCSD Medical Center |
|
|
“I want to start taking Pilates, learn to salsa, take a trip to Latin America, and use all the accumulated credit I have at stores around town.”
