With the "graying" of our work force, it is inevitable that our
employees will be facing the unavoidable responsibility of caring for
their elderly parents. Most elderly people needing care receive it from
family members. Only 10-20 percent of the elderly requiring care
receive it from institutions. Eighty percent of non-professional
caregivers are women. If you are a UCSD employee with eldercare
responsibilities, this Learn-At-Lunch presentation is designed just for
you. Veronika Glenn will address your concerns and provide a wealth of
educational handouts.
Veronika M. Glenn is the director of Education and Training of Southern
Caregiver Resource Center (SCRC) since 1998. Her responsibility at SCRC
includes providing educational programs for Family Caregivers and
Professionals in the San Diego and Imperial County communities.
Veronika has written many articles and facilitated in-services on the
Aging Process. Topics she has addressed include: "Dementia-What is it,
What is it Not," "Personal Care Tips for the Caregiver-Taking Care of
You," "Adult Children-You and Your Aging Parents."
Veronika Glenn received her Nursing Education in Germany and has worked
in the Health Care Community in San Diego for 25 years. Mrs. Glenn's
professional affiliations include the Health Promotions Committee at
Aging and Independence Services (AIS) of the County of San Diego. She is
a founding member of the Caregiver Coalition to improve end-of-life
care. She has served as the Executive Director of Dignita Hospice Care.
In 2002, Aging and Independence Services presented Veronika with an "Excellence in Community Service" Award. In 2004, Veronika was
nominated for the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency
Public Health Services "Public Health Champion Award."
