Special Rates Offered to UCSD
Community by Neighboring Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa
Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa is offering special use pricing to UCSD faculty, staff, students and associates through 2005.
The hotel, located across from Eleanor Roosevelt College on North Torrey Pines Road, opened last spring on UCSD land leased to Lowe Enterprises, the developer, and Destination Hotels & Resorts, which manages a number of upscale hotels throughout the country. Longtime residents may remember the site as the former Blackhorse Farms, the domain of corrals and horses.
"Because of UCSD's land ownership, we're pleased to be able to offer these special values to the university community," noted Mark Podolski, director of sales and marketing.
Individual guest rooms for UCSD employees, students their families and departmental visitors will be offered on a space available basis for $159. Other special rates are available for the Business Center, restaurant, catering, spa treatments and blocks of 10 or more guest rooms. (See accompanying sidebar.)
Reservations may be made by calling (858) 550-1000 or visiting www.estancialajolla.com. Callers are asked to indicate their UCSD affiliation when making reservations, and must show UCSD identification on arrival.
The hotel, located at 9700 N. Torrey Pines Road, includes 210 deluxe guest rooms and suites, 25,000 square feet of indoor conference center certified meeting space, a full service luxury spa, advanced networking and audio-visual technology, free high speed and wireless internet for guests, three distinct restaurants and bars, and a heated courtyard pool.
As opposed to a more common vertical office building style structure, Estancia La Jolla covers 9.5 acres in linear fashion featuring a combination of historical bricks from its equestrian roots, natural landscaping and many gardens, meandering pathways and fountains. The 9,000-square-foot garden spa offers 11 in-and-outdoor treatment rooms and a modern fitness center.
In addition to arranging conferences in a conventional a la carte method, the hotel offers a number of "meeting packages" which provide planner and attendee benefits, including significant price reductions and generous food displays.
The restaurant, banquet and catering services recently acquired a new executive chef, Jesse Frost, formerly with the Prince of Wales room at Hotel del Coronado.
