Rubio's to Help Raise Funds for Staff Scholarships
By Shannon Casey | May 31, 2005
Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill is showing its altruistic spirit by offering a quick and easy way for its UCSD patrons to support the university.
On Monday, June 6, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Rubio's in the Price Center will be donating 20 percent of each transaction to the UC San Diego Staff Association Scholarship Fund. Customers looking to participate in the fund-raiser must present this flyer to the cashier for their purchase to qualify for the program.
"This is an easy way for students, faculty and staff to show their support," said Ken Tomory, vice chair and junior delegate to the Council of UC Staff Assemblies.
"With many university staff reaching the age of retirement, it's important that up-and-coming staff members are prepared to lead the university, and staff scholarships for career development help provide them with the tools necessary to do so."
Funds raised will provide staff scholarships for career development and training opportunities to UCSD Staff Association members. Scholarships established through the Rubio's fund-raiser will be awarded at the Staff Association Holiday Pancake Breakfast on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005.
If you are interested in applying for a staff scholarship, contact Scholarship Chair, Erlinda Sanchez, at (858) 534-4075 or esanchez@ucsd.edu to receive an application. You must be a member of the UCSD Staff Association to be eligible for a scholarship (Any UCSD employee may join for a $6 annual fee.)
If this first Rubio's fund-raiser on June 6 is well supported, the UCSD Staff Association will likely hold additional fund-raisers with Rubio's on the first Monday of each month through December. Visit the Staff Association website or contact Ken Tomory at (858) 822-1261 or ktomory@ucsd.edu for more information.
