UCSD's women's soccer team will advance to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) playoffs after capturing a fifth title in six years in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship. The CCAA is considered to be the top Division II athletic conference in the nation.
UCSD will compete next week in the NCAA Division II Far West Regional. The team's opponent has yet to be announced.
Sunday, the Tritons won their California championship title by defeating defending champion California State University, Dominguez Hills 4-3.
Senior Kathy Sepulveda and freshman Natasha Belak-Berger each scored a goal during the first half. Sophomore Lauren Segars put her team up 4-1 during the second half with two goals. Dominguez Hills later came back to narrow UCSD's lead to 4-3.
UCSD's team, coached by Brian McManus, now has a 17-3 record for the season.
