Faculty Lunches Will Explore Changes in Scholarly Communication

The Faculty Club at UCSD will host a Faculty Lunch Series, beginning Nov. 22 and continuing through next year, that explores the current state of academic communication and suggests possible improvements.
Open to all UCSD faculty, the series is titled "Publish and/or Perish: Changes in Scholarly Communication," and is intended to raise awareness of the current systems of scholarly communication and help develop support for changes.
The first faculty lunch is scheduled for noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, in the Faculty Club. Blaise Cronin, professor of Information Science at Indiana University, will discuss "Authorship & Attribution; Access & Attention: Trends in Scholarly Communication."
The second in the series is slated for noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006 at the Faculty Club. Stephen Rhind-Tutt, CEO of Alexander Street Press, and Lynne Withey, director of the University of California Press, will discuss "Electronic Publication: Changing the Way Your Work is Disseminated and Read."
The Faculty Lunch Series is sponsored by the UCSD Libraries and the committees on libraries and academic personnel of the UCSD Academic Senate.
