IR/PS Prof Wins 2005 Nakahara Prize

Takeo Hoshi, a professor in the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies, was recently awarded the 2005 Nakahara Prize by the Japanese Economics Association. The prize honors economists under the age of 45 who have produced internationally recognized research.

Hoshi, who is the Pacific Economic Cooperation Professor of International Economic Relations at UCSD, is an authority on the Japanese economy and its financial system, especially corporate finance and governance.

Co-author of the highly regarded Corporate Finance and Governance in Japan: The Road to the Future (MIT Press, 2001), Hoshi has been at the forefront of analyzing both the theoretical and empirical issues of the Japanese banking problem in the 1990s.
