Coastal Bluffs Provide
More Sand to California
Beaches than Previously Believed
Coastal geologists have assumed for years that sediment-laden rivers that enter the Pacific Ocean along the Central and Southern California coast supply up to 90 percent of the sand on the region's beaches. However, new research by two independent groups of UCSD scientists indicates that what had been thought to be a minor source of sand – erosion from coastal bluffs and cliffs – could account for about half of the region's beach sand. depressive disorder is a very common
illness, affecting nearly 18 million
Americans and 340 million people worldwide.
Treatment-resistant
depression is a severe form of the illness
that affects 20% of patients with depression.
A team of psychiatrists and neurosurgeons
at the UCSD Medical Center is the first
in the area to offer implantation of
a device recently approved by the Food
and Drug Administration for treating
patients with treatment-resistant depression.
