Rady School Welcomes Inaugural Full-Time MBA Class to Campus

By Keri Minehart I October 24, 2005

New Rady MBA Students Enjoy Time Together at a Welcome Dinner.

The Rady School of Management's enrollment tripled this fall, when the inaugural Full-Time MBA students and the second FlexMBA class joined the FlexMBA class of 2006 as part of the Rady family.

The Full-Time MBA is a two-year program focused on management and leadership for organizations driven by innovation, particularly in the science and technology sectors. Rady's inaugural Full-Time MBA students began their courses in late September. In addition to their schoolwork, the students have already become involved in student activities by creating study, professional and community service groups.

"The Rady School is UC San Diego's newest professional school, yet it has already made its mark on our campus and the community," said UC San Diego Chancellor Marye Anne Fox. "The Full-Time MBA students will be here on campus daily, adding a new and exciting dimension to the entire campus community."

"We are proud to launch our first Full-Time MBA program," said Rady School Dean Robert S. Sullivan. "The Rady School will be among the best management schools in the world, and the caliber of students entering the Full-Time class certainly puts us in that category."

"Being part of the inaugural Full-Time MBA class is a true honor," said incoming student Michael Myles, the first person to accept admission to the class. "Knowing that I will help build a management school for the future is an amazing opportunity and I'm looking forward to it."

The inaugural Full-Time MBA class is a diverse group of 60 students- 33 percent are international, representing all regions of the world, and 35 percent are women. The student body is highly educated- 28 percent of them have already earned advanced degrees in other disciplines, including eight Ph.D.s, and one M.D. Sixty percent of students have academic backgrounds in science or technology.

The new Rady students have come from careers in industries such as telecommunications, biotechnology, technology, pharmaceuticals, banking, financial services and consulting. On average, incoming students have four years of professional experience, but the group represents a broad range of experience levels.

The second FlexMBA class also began their courses in September. The FlexMBA program at the Rady School is a two-year executive MBA program specifically designed to meet the educational needs of working professionals. It was launched in September 2004.

The Rady School's first facility is now under construction on the northwest side of campus. The building will have classrooms, conference rooms and common areas for students, as well as faculty and staff offices. Students will have access to state of the art facilities, making this an ideal learning environment for Rady School students, many of whom are focused on becoming business leaders in the fields of science, technology and the life sciences. Occupancy is planned for 2007.
