UCSD to Celebrate Earth Day Thursday

Chancellor Marye Anne Fox will launch UCSD’s Earth Day 2006 Festival with a welcome at 10 a.m. on the Sun God Lawn. Scott Anders of the Energy Policy Initiative Center (EPIC) and Stephen Grealy, recycling program manager for the City of San Diego Environmental Programs , will speak at noon at the Price Center Plaza . Spoken Gun will perform from noon to 1 p.m. and Scott Law will perform from 1 to 2 p.m. on the Sun God Lawn. More than two dozen environmental organizations and vendors will host informational booths, also on the Sun God Lawn.
UCSD’s Earth Day 2006 Festival celebrates what the university and the San Diego community are doing to make the area a more sustainable, beautiful place. Speakers: Scott Anders will speak about EPIC, the University of San Diego School of Law initiative that studies energy policy and sustainable solutions for San Diego . Stephen Grealy will speak about how San Diego ’s recycling programs advance sustainability in the region. Performers: Spoken Gun blends reggae, hip hop, blues, funk and rock to create a versatile, eclectic, danceable sound. Scott Law brings lyrical turns, strong themes and a broad emotional range to soulful singing. Participating environmental organizations include Population Reduction for Earth Preservation, Student One Campaign, IR/PS Environmental Society, Green Campus Program, Student Sustainability Coalition, Muir Environmental Club, Keep California Beautiful, UCSD Environmental Health & Safety, UCSD Recycling, San Diego Regional Energy Office, EnvironGentle, San Diego Gas & Electric and more.
