Marianne McDonald Awarded Prizes
in Theater and Classics, Honored with Book

Marianne McDonald, professor in the Theatre and Dance Department and in the Classics Program, was presented on Jan 30 with the San Diego Critics Circle Craig Noel Award for Theater Excellence for most Outstanding New Play, entitled “…and then he met a woodcutter”. McDonald was also awarded the American Philological Association “Outreach Prize” (2006) last week for her work popularizing classic literature.

A volume of prose, poetry and plays entitled "Rebel Women" has also been published in honor of McDonald. With contributions from Nobel Prize author Seamus Heaney and many others, the new book commemorates a lifetime of exceptional writing. It will be formally unveiled at a special ceremony in Ireland this spring.
