Web-based Tool Offers New Avenue for Supporting
UC
January 29, 2007
Do you want to attend more UC events, get better information about the challenges UC is facing or help with writing letters, or visiting elected officials with other UC alumni and friends? There’s now an easy way to find out about opportunities to get involved and support UC and UC San Diego.
GetActive is a web-based advocacy tool used to deliver personalized messages to state elected officials in support of the University of California. Become a member and you will receive regular e-mails – usually monthly – about proposed legislation and state budget actions affecting UC. UC will also occasionally ask members to join fellow advocates in sending letters to legislators to help make the university’s case on key issues. For example, calling on legislators to support state funding for UC or asking them to help cut student loan rates.
The university’s ability to continue delivering on its promises for California requires sustained support from the state government. Today, more than ever, the UC system – including essential programs and facilities at UC San Diego – needs the help of its many friends around the state to make the case for strong state support of public higher education and the many benefits it provides California.
So visit our advocacy web site at http://www.ucforcalifornia.org to let those in Sacramento know what UC means to California. Our new web site will allow you to type in your zip code, and in a few keystrokes send a letter on UC’s behalf to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and your state representatives. To join you can also go directly to UC San Diego’s sign-up page at www.ucforcalifornia.org/sandiego/join.html
