A crowd of 1,421, the largest ever to watch UCSD
women's basketball at RIMAC Arena, saw the Tritons
turn away stubborn Sonoma State, 66-59, Friday night
behind Michelle Osier's 20 points. Osier, who scored
just two points and didn't make a field goal against
Dominguez Hills, delivered a dominating performance
vs. the Seawolves, connecting on 9-of-14 and pulling
down 12 rebounds. Junior Jillian Ricks (14 pts.) and
Juster (11 pts./8 assists) were also big offensive
contributors and Alexis Gaskin snagged nine rebounds
in just 15 minutes, helping UCSD to a 33-28 edge in
that department. The Tritons pushed their lead to
11 points in both halves but could never really put
Sonoma State away and the visitors closed to within
three with just 1:42 on the clock. At that point,
Juster and Osier made driving buckets to clinch it.
Saturday night's game against Humboldt State followed
a similar script .After scoring the game's first 13
points, the Tritons let the Lumberjacks crawl back
to within two at halftime. The visitors briefly swiped
the lead in the second half before UCSD finally turned
up the heat in the final four minutes for a 66-55
decision. The redoubtable Juster turned in a double
double with 18 points and 11 rebounds and handed out
four assists. Ricks made it back-to-back nights in
double digits with 13 points and senior Hillary Hansen,
a perfect 6-of-6 from the line, scored 11. Osier had
nine points and eight boards while Kacie Kostlan distributed
five assists. |
