Campus to Mark Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day April 26

Ioana Patringenaru | April 9, 2007

UC San Diego employees will be able to bring their children to work on Thursday, April 26 to celebrate the nationwide Take our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.

“This special day focuses our nation's attention on creating opportunities for girls and boys to share and communicate their expectations for the future,” Chancellor Marye Anne Fox wrote in a statement.

Fox approved two hours of administrative leave with pay for employees who chose to take part in the celebration. She is asking supervisors to approve the leaves when the absence doesn’t infringe upon the performance of required job duties.

Founded by the Ms. Foundation for Women, Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day has evolved over the years to provide families with activities that strengthen the connections between education and work and the relationships between parents and their children. UCSD will again honor this day, although the university will not arrange specific activities through the Women's Center.

Parents and children still will be able to take tours of the UCSD Police Department, said Detective John Smart. They will be able to check out officers’ riot gear, including helmets and bullet-proof vests and to play with patrol-car lights.

Information that may guide activities around the theme of Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day may be found here.
