Binglin Gu, president of Tsinghua University, sometimes referred to as the “MIT of China,” headed a delegation of the university’s scientists and leadership team who spent a full day meeting with UCSD researchers and administrators. The visit was highlighted by a luncheon and signing ceremony that was expected to bring Chinese graduate students and researchers to UCSD and also opened the possibility for return exchanges to Tsinghua University, located in Beijing. The initial exchanges will be in disciplines like physics and bioengineering, but the relationship will evolve to cover other fields of research and teaching.
The visit was coordinated by Associate Vice Chancellor for International Affairs Peter Cowhey and involved deans from several of the UCSD schools and divisions as well as many researchers and professors. |
