San Diego Native Chris Carlson Hired to Lead Triton Men's Basketball Program
After a two-month long national search, UCSD has hired UCLA's director of basketball operations as the new head coach for the Triton men's basketball team, officials announced. Chris Carlson replaces Bill Carr who posted a 38-45 record in his three seasons at the helm before leaving to become the associate head coach at the University of San Diego.

Researchers Reveal Structure of Protein Altered in Autism
As a result of mapping the structure of the protein complex
implicated in autism spectrum disorders, a research team led by scientists at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has discovered how particular genetic mutations affect this complex and contribute to the developmental abnormalities found in children with autism. Their work should help scientists pinpoint the consequences of other genetic abnormalities associated with the disorder.

Fewer UCSD Commuters Driving Alone to Work and School, More Using Alternative Transportation
The number of University of California, San Diego commuters
driving to the La Jolla campus or the UCSD Medical Center via single-occupancy
vehicles has dropped 12 percent in the last six years, down from 66 percent in 2001
to 54 percent in 2007, according to a recent report from the UCSD Department of

UCSD Director of Athletics Earl Edwards Wins National AstroTurf Award
UCSD Director of Athletics Earl W. Edwards received an AstroTurf Athletic Director of the Year Award from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics earlier this month. He shares the honor with 28 other athletic directors across the nation. Edwards was recognized for the association's Division II West Region.
