Rady School of Management
Holds Inaugural Full-time MBA Graduation Ceremony

Keri Peckham | June 18, 2007

The Rady School of Management at the University of California, San Diego held Monday its graduation ceremony to confer master of business administration degrees upon the school’s inaugural Full-Time MBA class. This group of 55 pioneering students joined the Rady School’s first Full-Time MBA class in September 2005.

The class of 36 men and 19 women will leave the Rady School for careers across various industries. Graduates have accepted positions domestically in Los Angeles, New York, Omaha, San Diego, San Francisco and internationally in China and Singapore.

“The Full-Time MBA class of 2007 leaves an extraordinary legacy as the first Full-Time MBA class on this campus,” said UC San Diego Chancellor Marye Anne Fox. “The San Diego regional business community advocated for an MBA program at our university and I am confident that the Rady School graduates' future business and community endeavors will make us proud.”

“The Full-Time MBA students have made an incredible impact on the Rady School,” said Rady School Dean Robert S. Sullivan. “They have created student clubs, made professional contacts domestically and globally and created a true sense of community for future classes of the school.”

Since joining the Rady School, the Full-Time MBA class of 2007 has created the student government and other organizations including a finance club, a marketing club, a chapter of Net Impact and a life sciences and technology club. They also assisted in raising funds for the school’s new building and for student fellowships.

“I am proud to have been a member of the inaugural Full-Time class at the Rady School,” said Nick Boyle, Full-Time MBA class of 2007 student speaker. “This unique opportunity has enabled our class to establish the culture and commitment to excellence that is expected of a top business school. Giving us a foundation of business knowledge and experience working with business executives throughout San Diego, the Rady School experience has transformed my mindset, network and business savvy.”

The graduation speaker is Michael Milken, chairman of the Milken Institute and of FasterCures, a Washington-based think tank that works to eliminate barriers to progress against all life-threatening diseases. Fortune magazine called Milken “The Man Who Changed Medicine” for his 35 years of accelerating medical solutions – work that resonates with the Rady School, whose focus is “innovation to impact.”

“As someone who has spent a lifetime encouraging innovation in the areas of medical research, education and finance, I look forward to meeting the inaugural Full-Time MBA class of the Rady School,” said Milken. “These students have studied the process of taking innovation into the marketplace in ways that have an impact on society.”

Graduates have accepted positions in consulting, general management, finance and marketing. Employers include Amylin, Applied Biosystems, Barclay's Capital, Chevron, Genentech, GenVault, Hewlett-Packard, IMS Health, Millipore, Provide Commerce (ProFlowers) and PRTM. One group of 2007 Full-Time MBAs is currently seeking funding for a cancer biotechnology venture and plan to start the company here in San Diego.

The Rady School of Management at UC San Diego educates global leaders for innovation-driven organizations. A professional school within one of the top-ranked institutions in the U.S. for higher education and research, the Rady School offers a Full-Time MBA program, a FlexMBA program for working professionals, undergraduate and executive education courses. Our lineage includes 16 Nobel Laureates (former and current faculty) and eight MacArthur Foundation award recipients. The Rady School at UC San Diego transforms innovators into business leaders.
