Go Green, Save Green This Summer at Birch Aquarium at Scripps
Get 2-for-1 aquarium admission by trading in energy-hungry light bulbs and lamps
July 16, 2007
Dates: July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 15
11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Here’s a bright idea: Join the global effort to slow climate change and cut down your
energy bill this summer at Birch Aquarium at Scripps. On three select Saturdays, trade in
old light bulbs and torchiere lamps for new, energy-efficient models — for free — and
get 2-for-1 aquarium admission.
On July 21, Aug. 18 and Sept. 15, San Diego County residents can exchange up to five
75-watt or higher incandescent light bulbs and/or up to two halogen torchiere lamps
(bring entire fixture) for compact fluorescent lights — a combined savings of more than
$100 — while supplies last. The new models use 75 percent less energy than regular
incandescent bulbs, create 75 percent less heat and last 10 times as long.
Bring a copy of your current San Diego Gas & Electric utility bill to prove San Diego
County residency. No other proof will be accepted.
Once inside the gates, explore Birch Aquarium at Scripps’ newest exhibit, “Feeling the
Heat: The Climate Challenge.” Through hands on-activities, videos and visuals, learn the scientific facts of climate change and discover tips for reducing carbon emissions.
Offered through a partnership with SDG&E and the City of San Diego, this special
exchange program will be held in conjunction with Family Days, Birch Aquarium’s
monthly program that embraces family learning and togetherness through one-of-a-kind
activities for all ages. Family Days is included with aquarium admission and runs from
11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
