UCSD-TV Comes to Carlsbad and North County Cable
UCSD-TV is now on the airwaves in north San Diego County on Time Warner Cable, channel 18. The non-commercial channel operated by UCSD launched July 11 on Time Warner's north county system, which includes Carlsbad and portions of Solana Beach, Encinitas, San Marcos and Vista. Broadcasts begin at 4 p.m. and end at midnight, seven days a week.
"We are thrilled that UCSD-TV is finally available to subscribers across the north county," said UCSD-TV Managing Director Lynn Burnstan "UCSD has valued ties with residents throughout these communities, so it is important that we are able to share with them the tremendous breadth and depth of knowledge UCSD-TV offers."
July's line-up features a characteristically wide range of programs, from exclusive backstage visits at local cultural venues to the latest in science, health and public affairs. On July 19 at 9 p.m., "Health Matters" host Dr. David Granet welcomes Dr. Cheryl Saenz of the UCSD Moores Cancer Center for an eye-opening discussion about human papillomavirus and the new HPV vaccine now available. Friday nights at 8 p.m., UCSD-TV presents La Jolla Music Society's SummerFest series (more information at www.ucsd.tv/lajollamusicsociety).
"The Making of Place: Solana Beach," featuring renowned urban planner Fred Kent will premiere in September. Kent leads a "place-making" workshop with Solana Beach Mayor Lesa Heebner, developer Greg Shannon and others grappling with how to make this coastal city more livable, pedestrian-friendly and attractive.
When Time Warner acquired North County’s cable system from Adelphia in 2006, the company decided to make UCSD-TV part of its local basic channel line-up. UCSD-TV has been available throughout the remainder of San Diego on Time Warner cable since fall 1993, on Cox Cable since 2000 and via UHF (no cable) on channel 35 since the channel first launched in early 1993.
UCSD-TV is a non-profit, non-commercial broadcast station that provides viewers with locally-produced, regionally-focused programs that enrich the public's awareness of new ideas, key issues and local events. UCSD-TV airs on Cox Digital Ch. 135; Time Warner San Diego and North County Ch.18; Time Warner Del Mar Ch. 68; or UHF (no cable) Ch. 35. For more information visit www.ucsd.tv |
