Marshall College Launches School Supplies Drive for Charter School
By Ioana Patringenaru | Oct. 1, 2007
Thurgood Marshall College is organizing a school supplies drive for Gompers Charter Middle School from Sept. 25 to Oct. 12 and everyone is encouraged to donate. Gompers teachers’ wish list includes backpacks, binders, pens and pencils.
Marshall College officials said they want to show that they support UC San Diego’s partnership with the school, students, teachers and the Chollas View community in South East San Diego by providing an overflow of supplies for the new school year.
The drive is a great opportunity for students, parents, departments or organizations to make a meaningful contribution, officials said. Everyone can take part, they added: students getting last minute supplies for the quarter, parents preparing for the start of their children’s school year, individuals, departments or organizations looking for a worthy cause.
Last year, 1,086 school supplies were donated and delivered to Gompers. This included 44 backpacks, 100 binders, 30 whiteboards and hundreds of pens and pencils. This year, a list of items, donation holders and donor cards can be found in the Thurgood Marshall College Administration Building by the Giving Tree in the lobby. Donations will be presented to Gompers on behalf of UC San Diego and all who donate.
