The initiative began as a conversation between Facility Management managers Chuck Morgan and Dave Wargo (co-chairs of the campus’ Faculty Staff Christian Fellowship) and grew into an event greeted by Chancellor Marye Anne Fox, sponsored by Vice Chancellor Steve Relyea and attended by Fox, Relyea, Vice Chancellor Penny Rue, directors and managers, as well as more than 100 of the night-time staff that keep the university running smoothly while day-time staff are home sleeping.
The catered event was held in the Student Services Center Multi-Purpose Room and quite a few of the staff walked away with prizes donated from on and off campus vendors. Night-time crews included staff from Facilities Management, University Centers, the Chancellor's office, Recreation, the UC Police Department, Housing Maintenance, Transportation, Fleet Services, EH&S Fire Marshall and Central Utility Plant. The event’s planning committee consisted of Vice Chancellor Relyea, Morgan, Wargo, Rich LaClair-Zoehrer, director of the Campus Research Machine Shop, current Staff Association Chair Anna Gandolfi and Natalie Powell, past chair of the association.
