Students Pack Library Walk During Triton Winter Job and Internship Fair
Hundreds of students packed Library Walk and looked for employment opportunities Jan. 16 during the Triton Winter Job and Internship Fair. In all, 118 employers ranging from Yahoo! to the Santa Ana Police Department took part, providing information for the campus community and trying to recruit potential staff. Many students showed up for the event dressed to impress.
Student Associations Urge Campus Community to Vote
Volunteers from Associated Students, CALPIRG and the university-wide Student Affairs department worked together to help register voters last week on campus. The deadline for registering to vote in the upcoming Feb. 5 elections is Jan. 22.
Students Hand Out Free Scoops to Promote Social Justice
Students enjoyed free Ben and Jerry's ice cream last week on campus during Activist Rush Week. Members of the UCSD chapter One Earth One Justice handed out the free scoops. Their goal was to help raise awareness for environmental and social justice by promoting fair trade, which helps farmers in developing nations. Activist Rush Week encouraged students to get involved with organizations that advocate for a wide range of issues, from racial equality to climate change. Here organizers Yuki Murakami, June Reyes, Nishma Doshi and others pose Wednesday at the Price Center.
UC San Diego Alumna and Employee Exhibits Artwork at the Price Center
If you are ever at the Price Center Theatre Foyer this January, chances are that you’ll see a colorful assortment of paintings by UCSD aluma and staff member Kay Dietze. She began painting with acrylics and oils at a young age. When asked about her style, Dietze says, “I am a mood painter. I can go weeks without painting, but when I have to paint, I have to paint, and if I am out of canvases, I will paint on anything!” Her works will be on display until Feb. 1.
"Cluster" Part of Ongoing Events at Mandeville Annex Gallery
Lan Pham, a studio art major, exhibited her installation “Cluster” last week at the Mandeville Annex Gallery. Her ‘clusters’ of assorted works include mixed media, shadow box assemblages and ready-made items. Pham uses the entire space of the gallery to display her works. Visual Arts undergraduates curate and produce their own shows at the Mandeville Annex Gallery during the academic year. The gallery is located on the lower level of the Mandeville Center, Rm. B118, and is open from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, from Fall through Spring quarters.
