Staff-Alumni Meet-and-Greet Luncheon a Record Turnout
UC San Diego Staff-Alumni chapter gathered Thursday at the Student Services Center for a meet-and-greet luncheon. During the event, special guests Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Penny Rue and Interim Executive Director of the Alumni Association Armin Afsahi remarked on the importance of building campus community at UC San Diego, through the inclusion of all, and by actively advocating for the university. Rue stated that “Campus community is not a spectator sport”. Afsahi noted the extra perspective gained from being UCSD staff-alumni. Lunch was provided by the Alumni Association. There are currently more than 900 staff-alumni at UCSD.

Student Club Helps Raise Funds for Education in Africa
“Help reconstruct a country devastated by war and child abduction” was a slogan used by the student club Schools for Schools as they asked for donations last week on Library Walk. The club is affiliated with a larger organization called Invisible Children. Students who donate $3 or more can decorate a white flag for display. All proceeds for this event will help fund education for children in Northern Uganda. In this picture, School for Schools co-president Scott Thompson stands behind flags while waving one that illustrates, “Peace in Uganda”.
