How to Celebrate Valentine’s Day Without Leaving Campus

Still trying to figure out what do for your sweetheart on Valentine’s Day? Here are a few ideas for last minute gifts, all available on the UCSD campus this week.
Take them to a show: ArtPower! is launching its new Teeny-Tiny Film Series Feb. 14 at the Calit2 Black Box Theater. The Teeny-Tiny Pit Orchestra will play music while silent films screen. The Los Angeles Times has called their work “a sort of modern-day morphing of Captain Kangaroo and Spike Jones.” Meanwhile, for fans of classical music, the music department will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Soiree for Music Lovers concert series Feb. 14 at Mandeville Center. The evening’s program features works by Handel, Schubert and Mozart.
Buy sweets and support good causes, student organizations: The UCSD chapter of Colleges Against Cancer will sell $1 Valentine grams Feb. 14. The organization helps promote advocacy, raises money for cancer research and spreads knowledge about cancer risks. The Multi-Asian Student Association will sell candy roses all week on Library Walk. Also on Library Walk, the Inter-College Residence Association will sell cookies, balloons, valentines and other goodies Feb. 14. The student organization will also offer an anti Valentine’s Day table with cookies and black frosting and ways to vent for those who aren’t fans of the holiday.
Say it with flowers: like every year, the La Jolla Rose Company will offer a wide range of flowers at its location near the UCSD bookstore.
