International Café to Offer Gourmet Lunch

The French Gourmet’s chef and owner will be whipping up a delightful feast for members of the UCSD and San Diego communities from noon to 1:30 p.m. April 25 at the International Center’s International Café.
Michel Malécot, a professional French chef, has received many prizes from The Better Business Torch Award to the title of best caterer of the year by consumer and professional organizations. He is known throughout San Diego County both for his expertise as a chef and as a firm believer in the quality control of his product, International Center officials said.
Malécot’s restaurant, the French Gourmet, has served San Diego with full-service catering since 1979. It is also known for its bakery that offers traditional French pastries , croissants and baguettes, as well as cheese, pates and salads. It also includes a wine boutique. The newly remodeled restaurant is Zagat rated and serves California French cuisine in a casual countryside setting.
This International Café event is sponsored by the Torrey Pines Rotary Club. Tickets are $4. The menu will include:
- Minted Carrot Salad (Matchstick cut carrots marinated in fresh mint
vinaigrette)
- Baby Beet Salad (Baby beets mixed with a sour cream and red wine vinegar
dressing)
- Baguette
- Beef Provencale (Tender braised beef simmered in a hearty Provencal sauce seasoned with garlic and tomatoes)
- Mashed Potatoes and Blue Lake Green Beans
- Mixed Fruit Tart Band (Pastry crust with almond paste, brushed with chocolate, filled with flavored custard cream, topped with fresh assorted fruit)
