Athletes Recognized for Achievements On and Off the Field

Triton student-athletes were honored Thursday evening for their athletic achievements, academic excellence and outstanding community service at the 40th annual Student-Athlete Recognition Night. More than 600 people attended the event, organized by the UC San Diego Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. The banquet, held at the Price Center Ballroom on the UCSD campus for the sixth year in a row, also recognized coaches, parents and donors.
Clint Allard of the men’s basketball team and Meaghan Noud of the women’s basketball team were recognized as UC San Diego’s Outstanding Senior Student-Athletes. That award is handed out to graduating seniors, who were not only successful on the field, but in the classroom and in the community as well.
Baseball Coach Dan O’Brien received this year’s excellence-in-coaching award. The women’s cross-country team won the team GPA award and the women’s volleyball team the Triton Athletes’ Council team spirit award.
Thirteen student-athletes took home UCSD Athlete of the Year awards, including Dan Perdew and Kendall Bohn of swimming and Whitney Johnson and Linda Rainwater of track and field, who won national championships.
In addition to the 100 student-athletes who earned all-conference honors and the 29 who were named All-Americans during the 2007-08 campaign, UCSD also recognized the 66 four-year letterwinners from the 23 different intercollegiate teams.
