What’s new this academic year? Well, for one, lunch options will expand dramatically in the heart of campus with the opening of several restaurants at the Price Center and the Student Services Center. In addition, Jai by Wolfgang Puck, a high-end restaurant opened under the wing of superstar chef Wolfgang Puck, is offering gourmet cuisine in UC San Diego’s theatre district, which includes the La Jolla Playhouse.

Croutons opened Sept. 9 at the Student Services Center and offers an extensive selection of salads and Panini. Classics like Cobb salad and Cesar salad appear on the menu near specialties such as mixed berries salad, which pairs berries with gorgonzola cheese and candied walnuts. Panini come in several flavors, from chicken pesto to vegetarian. The restaurant also offers soups and hummus, flatbread and chips as side dishes.
Santorini Island Grill is bringing Greek specialties to campus this fall quarter at the Price Center East. The restaurant’s menus include plates of gyros and skewers, pita sandwiches and salads. Other authentic fare, such as stuffed vine leaves, known as dolmas, feta fries and calamari strips, are also available.
Also at the Price Center East, Bombay Coast is introducing the UCSD community to Indian cuisine this fall. Offerings include salads, entrée plates and wraps, with chicken, lamb, fish and vegetables. The restaurant also will feature other healthy specialties, with quality ingredients and authentic Indian spices.
At the end of fall or early in the winter quarter, students, faculty and staff will be able to sample authentic Taiwanese boba tea at Tapioca Express at the Price Center East. Boba teas come with tapioca pearls, made of sweet potato, cassava root and brown sugar and roughly the consistency of gummy bears. Tapioca Express’ will pour juices, flavored teas, milk teas, such as Chai, as well as coffee, on top of the round confections.
Finally, a restaurant is set to open at The Loft, UCSD’s new nightclub in the Price Center East. The space will sell gourmet dishes that guests can share, as well as alcohol. UCSD officials are currently recruiting a vendor for The Loft. In the meantime, they will hire caterers to provide food and drinks for the nightclub’s events.
Burger King has been serving up fast-food fare in the atrium of the Price Center East since July. The menu of course features burgers, but also chicken and fish sandwiches, as well as salads, drinks and treats.
Officials are still looking for a vendor for a coffee house in the Price Center East. Meanwhile, a crepe restaurant will serve up sweet treats in Price Center food court as early as spring quarter.
