Hungry for Pancakes? Holiday Breakfast Set for Wednesday

It’s that time of the year again, when visions of plump pancakes start dancing in staff members’ heads. The UCSD Staff Association will host its annual Holiday Pancake Breakfast Dec. 17 in the Price Center Ballroom. This year, employees will be able to feast on pancakes, sausages, eggs and fruit, while doing some good deeds.

One standing feature of the pancake breakfast is an appearance by Shaun Travers, director of UCSD's LGBT Resource Center, as Ho Ho, the holiday elf.

Breakfast activities will include several drives, such as donations for needy veterans and their families, a toy drive and a food drive. The toy drive benefits children at the UCSD Medical Center Burn Unit, the UCSD Infant Care Center, the Kaiser Permanente Pediatric Unit, the UCSD Mother, Child and Adolescent Care program and the National City Boys and Girls Club.

The UCSD Staff Association also will collect money for the Bob Gudgeon Memorial Fund for hospitalized children; used eyeglasses and sunglasses for MEDICO, an organization providing free medical, dental, and optometry care in developing countries; and food for the Neighborhood Networks Town and Country Learning Center in San Diego.

Other pancake breakfast activities include the Holiday Craft Fair in the Price Center Ballroom East. Participants will sell handmade arts and crafts such as jewelry, hand-woven baskets, greeting cards, candles, ornaments and more. Purchases support the UCSD Staff Association Scholarship Program. Employees also will be able to get their picture taken with Santa.

Unwrapped toys for the holiday toy drive can be dropped off until Dec. 16 at the following locations on campus:
