New Assistant Vice Chancellor for Auxiliary and Plant Services Named

Russell Thackston, the new assistant vice chancellor for Auxiliary and Plant Services.

Russell Thackston has been appointed as assistant vice chancellor for Auxiliary and Plant Services. In this role, Thackston will provide executive leadership to a diverse group of support service departments, including Facilities Management, UCSD Bookstore, Transportation and Parking Services, Early Childhood Education Center, Campus Research Machine Shop and Imprints Copy Services.

Thackston has an impressive track record of accomplishments, with more than 28 years of experience in the planning, design, construction and maintenance of large multi-facility, multi-client complexes, both domestic and overseas, Vice Chancellor Steven Relyea said in a statement.

Thackston has been serving as interim assistant vice chancellor for Auxiliary and Plant Services since Gary Matthews vacated the position to become the vice chancellor for Resource Management and Planning. Before assuming that interim role, Thackston served as the director of Facilities Management since joining UCSD in 2003. During his tenure, he has effectively led this division, ensuring continuity of services while advancing many important strategic initiatives, Relyea said.
