UC San Diego Alumni Association Reaches Out
to Young Alumni with Inaugural Reunion Feb. 19 – 22

There’s something for everyone — well, everyone who graduated from the University of California, San Diego between 1998 and 2008 — at the Young Alumni Reunion.

The UC San Diego Alumni Association invites graduates from 1998 through 2008 to take part in its inaugural Young Alumni Reunion to catch up with friends, make new contacts and explore what’s new on campus. A full slate of activities is planned Thursday, Feb. 19 through Sunday, Feb. 22, ranging from a Spirit Night tailgate party to showcasing the powerful Triton alumni network.

“Our Young Alumni Reunion is an exciting new initiative to bring young graduates back to campus to reconnect with classmates through social, educational and professional networking activities,” said Armin Afsahi, assistant vice chancellor for alumni affairs and executive director of the UC San Diego Alumni Association. “This annual event will help build a sense of community and UCSD pride among recent graduates, and keep them engaged with the university in a fun and meaningful way.”

Highlights of the Young Alumni Reunion weekend include:

  • Spirit Night Tailgate Party
    Friday, Feb. 20 at 5:00 p.m., Rady School of Management Courtyard
    Alumni can celebrate the UC San Diego Triton spirit together before the doubleheader basketball games.
  • Men’s and Women’s Basketball Games
    Friday, Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., RIMAC Arena.
  • Spirit Night After Party
    Friday, Feb. 20 after the game, The Loft.
    Alumni can stop by UC San Diego’s hottest new venue to mingle with friends and hear the popular alumni bands, The Modlins and Secret Apollo.
  • Power Up Your Triton Network” Luncheon and Expo
    Saturday, Feb. 20 at 11:00 a.m., Price Center Ballrooms A&B
    This dynamic program is designed to help UC San Diego alumni explore career opportunities and maximize their professional networks. Keynote speaker Bart Meltzer, ’90, lead inventor of Web Services and a pioneer in XML Technology, will offer his top ten strategies for owning, managing and gaining from social and professional networks. Exhibitors will include UC San Diego’s Rady School of Management, UCSD Extension, UCSD Career Services as well as numerous professional career and life coaching services.
  • Bottle Shock
    Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7:00 p.m., California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology
    Hosted by the Alumni Association and Chancellor’s Associates, executive producers Robert Baizer, ’87 and Diane Jacobs, ’86, Ph.D. ’91 will screen and discuss their independent film chronicling the famous 1976 wine tasting when a small American winery bested the celebrated French wines of the time, putting California wines on the map. Based on a true story, Bottle Shock debuted at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival to great critical acclaim.
  • Brunch and Champagne/Wine Tasting
    Sunday, Feb. 22 at 11:00 a.m., The Loft
    The closing event will feature food and drink from alumni-owned companies.

In addition, alumni will have opportunities to lunch with a favorite professor, take a campus tour or join various campus reunions including the Division of Biological Sciences, Environmental Systems, Department of Cognitive Sciences, Division of Physical Sciences, Greek Alumni, Alternative Breaks Alumni and many others.
