Music Center Draws Curtain on New Era for Music Department, Campus
On a recent Tuesday morning, the sound of a piano soared in the Conrad Prebys Music Center, rising along the venue’s triangular, wood-paneled walls and ceiling. Graduate student William Fried was performing "Feux d'Artifice" by French master Claude Debussy. He was one of a handful of students who got to test-drive the music center’s concert hall in March before its public opening in May.

Campus Trees Pay Big Eco-Dividends
How much can trees reduce an institution's carbon footprint and save in cooling and other costs? The total effect of UC San Diego's 200,000 trees was a reduction of nearly 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year, or 5 percent of its annual emissions. The total annual savings attributed to the trees were $2.2 million.

Screenings at Start Walking Event
UCSD School of Pharmacy students got a chance to meet San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders and Councilwoman Sherri Lightner at a National Start Walking Day event hosted by the American Heart Association. The students, led by Jennifer Lai, provided blood pressure and diabetes screenings, answered health-related questions, and provided health education and referral information. |

San Diego Holocaust Survivors to Share Stories at Holocaust Living History Workshop Series
Five local Holocaust survivors will recount their personal experiences during the Holocaust in Nazi Germany in “Discovering History: Holocaust Survivors in San Diego,” a series of presentations being held by UC San Diego’s Holocaust Living History Workshop, a joint effort of the UCSD Judaic Studies Program and the UCSD Libraries.
