RIMAC Opens New Addition
September 28, 2009
RIMAC Annex
Add another green structure to the campus’ ever-growing list. The Sports Facilities department welcomed students to its just-completed RIMAC Annex on the first day of the quarter, touting the many green elements of the $10 million building. The colorful, multi-windowed complex includes a convenience store, the “Short Stop”; Peet’s Coffee & Tea; lounges; meeting space, and improved softball facilities. The “Home Plate Café” is under construction and will open later in the fall.
The facility has been submitted for LEED certification, and includes green elements such as 100 percent reclaimed water for landscaped areas, use of materials with five percent minimum recycled content, use of regional materials manufactured within 500 miles, use of wood products certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, day lighting in 75 percent of all interior spaces, and optimized energy performance (30 percent savings over baseline.)
