Citing such factors as the organic food served in campus dining halls and strong student involvement in sustainability initiatives to 56 hybrid and 33 biodiesel vehicles in its fleet, the non-profit organization awarded UCSD the grade of A-, the highest award given and an achievement given to only 25 other campuses nationwide. New Rules To Protect
Kids From Obesity
By Philip R. Nader and
Michelle M. Zive (co-authors)
Consider this provocative juxtaposition: 40 percent of parents of school age children are afraid of their child getting kidnapped, and 30 percent of kids are already overweight by the time they start school. Based on these claims, the authors offer the following commentary: “We need to be as vigilant in protecting kids from marketing as we are about child abduction.” In a practical, thorough and wholely reasonable approach to nutrition, Nader and Zive provide time-tested guidelines, sample menus, grocery shopping strategies, and other concrete tools and tips for combating the pandemic of childhood obesity, one mouth at a time.
