Stem Cell Myth Buster
Research pioneer uses ‘Stem Cell for Dummies’ book to dispel misconceptions about stem cell research
Working on stem cell research is a lot like standing on a beach looking at an undiscovered continent. You can see mountain ranges, forests and rivers in the distance. You know great resources are awaiting on the horizon. But you need to explore to figure out the best path to get there. That’s how Larry Goldstein, the director of UC San Diego’s Stem Cell Program, explains what he and his colleagues on campus are trying to do. Recently, Goldstein took his role as a kind of spokesperson for stem cell research one step further by becoming the co-author of “Stem Cells for Dummies."

UC San Diego poet Rae Armantrout has won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for poetry for "Versed." Armantrout’s 10th collection of poems was cited as “a book striking for its wit and linguistic inventiveness, offering poems that are often little thought-bombs detonating in the mind long after the first reading.” “I’m stunned,” said Armantrout on receiving news of the award. “This was not on my radar screen at all. Tomorrow is my birthday, and this was a very nice birthday present.” More
