Tritons Claw Way to First-Round Victory
in Quest of World Series Championship

UC San Diego’s baseball team was warming up for its last practice at home, when suddenly James Taylor’s “Carolina in My Mind” blasted over the public announcement system. The students kept doing their lunges and running on the field, unfazed. They’ve heard the song at every practice since the beginning of the season. For Laren Poole, the congressional passage of the Lord’s Resistance Army Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act—legislation that will enable the U.S. State Department to help end the conflict in Uganda—is a groundbreaking achievement in a journey that began seven years ago. Scripps FleetUshering in the next era of ocean exploration, the U.S. Office of Naval Research has selected UCSD's Scripps Institution of Oceanography as the operator of a new scientific research vessel. Breaks Ground for Campus Expansion

Otterson The Rady School of Management broke ground Friday on the expansion of the Rady School campus and celebrated this milestone with community stakeholders. A challenge gift from Ernest Rady led to a $5 million gift from Wells Fargo Bank, allowing the expansion of the Rady School campus to commence. The building will be named Wells Fargo Hall. World’s Largest Oceanography Library Goes Digital

Bouchet Honor Society Recognizes Graduate Students for Academic Excellence and Commitment to Diversity
Twelve graduate students from UC San Diego were the first to be honored with membership in the Edward Alexander Bouchet Graduate Honor Society Wednesday with a dinner reception at the Faculty Club. Named for the first African American doctoral recipient in the United States, the society honors graduate students who exemplify a commitment to promoting diversity in doctoral education and supporting groups that are traditionally underrepresented in academia.
