Alumni Toast 50 Years of the Extraordinary at UC San Diego

They came from all across California, reuniting in the heart of the Napa Valley on Oct. 2 to raise a glass in celebration of one common extraordinary accomplishment: 50 years of historic milestones, remarkable achievements and innovative firsts at their alma mater. At the beautiful Castello di Amorosa, more than 250 Bay Area alumni and friends reconnected with their university to celebrate its 50th Anniversary, taking pride in past accomplishments while looking forward to the next half century.

“A Night in Napa,” hosted by the UCSD Alumni Association, launched the anniversary celebration in the alumni community with grape stomping, castle tours and specialty wine and food pairings. Chancellor Marye Anne Fox, Vice Chancellor of Business Affairs Steve Relyea and Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Penny Rue also joined in the festivities, as well as 24 members of the Alumni Association Board of Directors who held their fall meeting at the Culinary Institute of California in Napa the day prior. 

The evening was an opportunity to celebrate the visionaries, innovators and overachievers of the alumni community who are making a positive impact on the region, and the world. The guests in attendance represented the remarkable diversity and creativity of UC San Diego alumni, from business leaders and entrepreneurs to scientists and artists, and from recent college graduates to those long established in their careers.
