Celebrate50: Expect an Evening of the Unexpected
Jade Griffin | Oct. 18, 2010
As part of UC San Diego’s 50th Anniversary, the university will host “an evening of the unexpected” on Nov. 13 with Celebrate50. Guests, including community leaders, donors, alumni, faculty, staff and friends, will converge on campus to experience—through music, dance and video—the historic events and people that marked UC San Diego’s transformation from ship to shore.
As part of the celebratory dinner and reception, Chancellor’s Medals will be awarded to two individuals and three couples—the most at one time in the university’s history—to recognize outstanding support and service to UC San Diego. Honorees are Pauline Foster, Audrey Geisel, Irwin and Joan Jacobs, Jerome and Miriam Katzin, and Ernest and Evelyn Rady. The Chancellor’s Medal is one of the highest honors given by UC San Diego.
Proceeds from the event will benefit undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships as part of UC San Diego’s $50 million student support campaign, Invent the Future. Funding for scholarships and fellowships is essential to ensure that students from all social and economic backgrounds have access to the world-class education UC San Diego has to offer.
Celebrate50 will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $250 per person. For more details, please call (858) 534-7835 or visit www.50th.ucsd.edu.
