Campus Celebrates Anniversary With Free Lunchtime Series Feb. 22-24

Join in celebration of UC San Diego’s 50th Anniversary—and enjoy complimentary lunch—as part of the Innovation Day Expo and Symposia (IDEaS) series of lunchtime programs Tuesday, Feb. 22 through Thursday, Feb. 24.  The exciting, provocative talks will focus on social justice and the cultural innovation emerging from UC San Diego and its staff, faculty and alumni.

Beyond Identity Politics: UC San Diego’s Innovative Approach to Diversity and Social Justice

UC San Diego’s Campus Community Centers have forged an innovative partnership which has become a national model to enhance diversity, community building and social justice in higher education. Panelists will include Emelyn dela Peña of the UC San Diego Women’s Center, Shaun Travers of the LGBT Resource Center and Edwina Welch of the Cross Cultural Center.

Educating Future Innovators for Social Justice
From establishing new charter schools to fostering the next generation of leaders in the classroom, UC San Diego trains leading innovators in education, leveraging their talents and experiences to make educational change to better California. Panelists will include 2010 National Teacher of the Year nominee Kelly Kovacic and senior Miriam Million of The Preuss School UCSD, with other special guests.

Diversity Is Our Future: UC San Diego in the Next 50 Years
As UC San Diego forges ahead into the next half century, a diverse campus community is essential for the university to stay at the forefront of innovation and find solutions to challenges facing the world. Panelists will include Sandra Clement of the Division of Biological Sciences, Ken Hall from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and alumnus Chris Yanov of Reality Changers.
