Triton Swimmers Take Home PCSC Championship for Third Year in a Row

| Feb. 28, 2011

The UC San Diego swimming and diving teams captured their third conference championship in a row on Saturday afternoon at the Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference Championships in Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool.

The Triton men tallied 1548.5 points over the four days, beating second-place Cal Baptist's total of 1386. UCSD scored 1635 points on the women's side while Cal Baptist followed with 1261 points.

Samuel Duimovich and Alex Henley won 2011 PCSC Men's and Women's Swimmer of the Meet honors, respectively.

The Triton women put together a one-two-three finish for the third consecutive day, as Emily Adamczyk (2:14.40), Neda Nguyen (2:18.90) and Michelle McCadden (2:20.29) took the top three spots in the 200 breaststroke. Adamczyk's time set a new conference record, breaking former Triton Rosanna Delurgio's mark in 2005.  Casey Adams came in fourth in the 200 breast with a time of 2:23.06.

Gabby Rossbach (2:04.34) and Olivia Martens (2:04.70) finished in the top two spots in the 200 butterfly while Henley (1:58.72) and Anji Shakya (2:04.95) finished one-two in the 200 backstroke, respectively. Rossbach also took home the 1650 free title with a time of 17:28.45.

The quadruplet of Henley, Anju Shimura, Olivia Fountain and Katherine Tse won the 400 free in a time 3:27.67.

Matt Herman and Nick Korth were the lone Triton men to take home first place finishes on the day. Herman finished first in the 1650 free with a time of 15:44.80 while Korth won the 200 breast in 1:58.56. Korth's 200 breast time set a PCSC record while also breaking his own school record. He also set conference and school records in the 100 breast during the meet.

Blake Langland finished second in the 100 free with a time of 45.68, a NCAA D-II B qualifying time. UCSD also took second in the 400 free relay as Reid McCallum, Sam Stromberg, Alex Merrill and Langland touched in 3:02.11.

The UCSD men led the entire length of the PCSC championships. The women were in second place after Wednesday's competition, but recovered to take first place on Thursday and hold on throughout the rest of the meet.

29 student-athletes have qualified for the NCAA Division II national Championships, March 9-12, in San Antonio, Texas. The number surpasses UCSD's total of 26 student-athletes who competed in 2009 and the 28 Tritons that qualified in 2010.
