Campus Throws Open
Doors to Reveal Green Spirit
How do you build a sustainable home that's also affordable? How do you green your business? What are some simple steps to reducing your carbon footprint in your everyday life? Many experts were on hand to answer these questions, and others, at UC San Diego's Green Open House Saturday. The event drew about 3,500 people from all over San Diego County and kicked off the campus' Earth Week celebrations. In addition to faculty demonstrations, the open house gave visitors tips for greening all aspects of their lives, from a car show, to cooking demonstrations, to a landscaping show.

UC San Diego Announces Undergraduate Admissions for Fall 2011
The University of California, San Diego has admitted 18,234 freshmen for Fall 2011. The number of admitted students is down 122 or a 0.7 percent decrease from last year due to over enrollment from Fall 2010. The new freshmen were selected from a record 53,455 applications. UC San Diego admitted 3,512 underrepresented students, up 15.4 percent from Fall 2010. More

Carolyn Schutt may be on to something big, something that will help revolutionize the way physicians diagnose and treat cancer.
The UC San Diego bioengineering grad student and her labmates Michael Benchimol and Mark Hsu are working on a method to use highly-sensitive light imaging and focused light therapies deep inside the body that will, for example, help detect and treat breast cancer more effectively. More

San Diego Book Arts and the UC San Diego Mandeville Special Collections Library will hold a Book Arts Faire May 1 to celebrate both the art of the book as well as the 40th anniversary of the Geisel Library building at UCSD.
